What's normal

  • A mild ache or tenderness that comes and goes.
  • The gum bleeding a little when you clean, in weeks 1–2.
  • The temporary feeling a bit different or bulkier.
  • A slight ache when you have a cold.
  • Good days and less-good days. Healing isn't a straight line.

On a sore day

Sore days happen and usually settle within a day or two.

  1. Soft food, and chew on the left for a day or two.
  2. Keep cleaning gently. A warm salt-water rinse (½ tsp in a glass) is soothing.
  3. Teeth apart, jaw loose. A warm compress on the jaw muscles helps if it feels tight; a cool one on the cheek if it's puffy.
  4. Paracetamol as on the pack, or what Dr. Qadomi recommends for you.
  5. Blocked nose? A saline rinse. Sinus aches often feel like tooth aches.
  6. Note it once in the evening check-in, then let it be.
  7. Not settling after 2–3 days, or a bit worse each day? Give the clinic a call.

Give the clinic a call (same day) if

Swelling of the gum or face · a bad taste that doesn't rinse away · sharp pain when biting · the temporary feels high or comes loose (keep it, never glue it) · pain that painkillers don't settle.

Clinic: 079 593 1831 · 06 560 6061. If you ever have facial swelling with a fever, see a doctor that day. This is rare.
